JCB launches new version of excavator at BAUMA ‘07
JCB launched newer version of 11-40 tonne excavators with better operating conditions and higher productivity at BAUMA 2007 last week.

These machines complying with latest emission norms are 12% more fuel efficient and lower noise levels, despite 25% in power delivered. This is achieved through an automated system, whereby the machine reduces the power output when the load on the machine is lower.

Other machines, among the total of 36 new launches, include newer version of telescopic handlers with improved visibility, higher turning radius, resulting in improved productivity. BAUMA, held every three years, is the largest construction equipment exhibition in the world, and is a major attraction for all equipment industry players.

The company, which achieved sales of e2.5 billion in 2006, is now ranked No 3 globally, based on latest sales. Sales have grown by about 85% over last three years, which has helped it increase its share in global market from 7% to 10.4% over the period. In terms of value, the growth is marginally lower at 84%. JCB COO Matthew Taylor attributed this lower growth rate to introduction of large number of compact products in the lower range.

While this restricted value growth in the recent past, he expects it to catch up with several high-end products hitting the market now. While the company is making attempts in the higher-end range, there are no plans yet to enter into tie-ups for this product range, where it still has some way to go.

Commenting on Indian market, Mr Taylor said, “India is an exciting market for us and is placed neck and neck now to its main market UK”.
