Napa is buying a $338,000 cold asphalt milling machine to support the city’s ambitious street repair program.
On Tuesday afternoon, the council approved on a 4-0 vote the purchase of a Nixon-Egli Equipment Company milling machine to replace a 10-year-old model. Councilman James Krider was not present at the meeting.
The machine is used for grinding up old streets before they are repaved. Napa uses city crews to pave 10 miles of local streets annually.
The replacement is a budgeted expense in the 2011-2012 fleet budget, according to the staff report.
Nixon-Egli is offering the city $80,000 for the old machine if Napa cannot sell it for more to an outside buyer, according to the city. That amount has already been subtracted from the purchase price.
The city will try to sell its current machine for at least $130,000 to further offset the cost.
