A truck driver was trying to read a map while driving along Route 11 Friday morning when the rig strayed off the highway and rolled onto its side in front of a Point Township factory.

The tractor-trailer was carrying plastic pellets to Strong Industries along Route 11, about six miles from the accident scene in Point Township. The rig came to a rest on its side in front of Mohawk Flush Doors, causing slow-moving traffic for several hours while emergency crews cleaned the scene and unloaded the trailer.

Several boxes of plastic pellets were damaged dur ing the accident, said George Geise, Point Township Fire Department lieutenant.

“There is no hazardous material to worry about, but some of the boxes were not in the best shape,” Geise said.

Keller’s Auto Body, of Selinsgrove, was called to tow and transfer the load to another trailer.

The unidentified driver, who was uninjured, was looking at a map when the accident occurred, Geise said.

Point Township police, along with fire and rescue personnel from Northumberland and Point Township, responded to the scene.
