Road rollers promise stability and safety
CASE’s range of SV series rollers are designed with safety in mind and claim to offer stability, operator comfort and easy maintenance.

With six models in the range, operating weights vary from 7.6t to 25.5t and drum widths from 1.7m to 2.24m. Engine power ranges from 100 hp in the SV208/SV210 to 148 hp in the SV212/SV216 and extends to 200 hp in the SV223/S228.

The SV range has a unique design philosophy: Case has removed the traditional “rear axle”, and utilised two separate drive motors. This allows the engine to be mounted much lower, giving the roller a low centre of gravity and improved stability. The engine can be serviced from ground level.

“We feature an electronic hydraulic system protection that stops the machine if more than 7.5 litres of oil is lost, preserving the life of components and protecting the environment,” says Richard Mastrangioli, Case product manager.

Exclusive to Case is a thermostat in the closed hydraulic circuit that prevents oil from passing to the cooler until operating temperatures are reached. This extends the life of the components by up to 40 percent.

“The service interval is doubled to 2,000 hours with the unique hydraulic oil flushing system. Using a special service pump, oil is pumped to the tank via the hydraulic system which means that almost all of the oil in the system is replaced.”

A heavy-duty articulation joint means that the rollers are able to withstand tough compression and vibration forces. With 36 degrees articulation, the joint ensures a reduced turning circle and 10 degree oscillation from either side. The joint features large bearings for both the oscillation and articulation.

The drum frame weight is balanced ensuring equal compaction forces to both sides of the drum preventing the machine from “sideways bounce” under vibration and an uneven finish. The entire range is versatile and can be used as a vibratory or ballasted static roller and options include pad shells for smooth drum rollers and electronic compaction meters.
