The town is scheduled to begin a 10-day hydrant flushing program Wednesday.
The Water Department will flush water mains from Sept. 1 to Sept. 10. The flushing removes iron and manganese from the walls of the pipes and can cause some temporary water discoloration that ususally subsides in a matter of hours.
While iron and manganese do not pose health risks, residents are encouraged to check water color before use, especially prior to doing laundry. Iron and manganese can stain clothing.
If clothes are stained by iron and manganese, do not use bleach as that will set the stain. Iron-removing detergent can be picked up at Town Hall free of charge.
