A piece of paving equipment being used on Ga. 53 caught fire Friday, and an employee of the paving company was treated for smoke inhalation, said Sgt. Danny Brackett of the Rome Fire Department.
According to Brackett:Workers with Bartow Paving Co. thought they had doused the fire with a fire extinguisher.
They walked to the store, looked back and saw the equipment was on fire again, and called the fire department.
One worker who tried to put out the fire was taken to the hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
