The York County Commissioners will be opening bids Tuesday, which will determine with what company and through what avenue the financing will be set up for the lease/purchase of five new motorgraders.
When the item was first posted on the agenda, there was some confusion from the public expressed to the York News-Times — with some individuals thinking it meant the county board was going to purchase more new motorgraders. That’s definitely not the case, says County Clerk Cynthia Heine. These bids will allow them to determine who carries the financing for the five new motorgraders they’ve already decided to purchase.
The vote to purchase the motorgraders took place in late June.
Historically, the county has purchased one or two new motorgraders a year, as part of a rotation plan. However, concerns over new, strict emission standards (which will take effect in January, 2011) prompted the majority of the county board to lean toward purchasing multiple units ahead of what was otherwise scheduled.
Now that the county is in a new fiscal year, the financing arrangements will be made.
In other business, when they meet for their regular meeting on Tuesday morning:
• As the board of equalization, they will act on a recommendation from the assessor’s office that multiple parcels of land under the umbrella of the Good Life Pentecostal Church in York be removed from tax exempt status. Ann Charlton, county assessor, will be recommending that the pieces of property, which include the actual church and a related house (the parsonage), be placed on the tax rolls. Charlton says the property has been listed for sale, as has all its contents, indicating the church is no longer in operation.
• The board will review an agreement that would allow a York resident to once again ride to out-of-town destinations on the Handi-Bus. The individual had his riding privileges taken away several years ago for “inappropriate and intoxicated behavior.” He has since asked to be allowed to once again board the bus. County officials have verbally said they’d allow it — if he signs an agreement stating he’d adhere to the behavioral requirements.
• York County Zoning Administrator Orval Stahr will present his quarterly zoning report and discuss late fees connected to zoning permits.
• And the commissioners will consider the appointment of a member to the York County Visitors Bureau Executive Board.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, which will formally begin at 9:30 a.m., in the basement of the courthouse. The commissioners will also meet with department heads, starting at 8:30 a.m., which is open to the public.
