Snow removal

Snow removal preparation comes prior to the snow arrives and continues throughout the snowstorm. If you sit in the house and attempt to ignore the start of the winter season, the job only gets worse.

Snow on the way

Watching your local weather news or checking in with a weather station on the television or site on the Internet can give you some warning that snow is on the way. Ahead of time, you should get the necessary equipment and supplies. Most of the items are available at your home improvement store. One item is an ice melt product. If snow is expected you should go and throw some of this on the driveway to minimize the amount of snow that will stick. If you are not prepared, you might avoid driving to the improvement store while the snow gets deeper. Moreover, the home improvement store might sell out and you have to drive home to an unclear driveway with no way to resolve the condition.

Proper Equipment

The choices of equipment are as many as the various types of driveways. You may need simple tools or heavy-duty electrical or gas equipment. With an examination of your abilities and the driveway, you can select the proper tool.

The most common tool is the shovel. You need to examine how you use a shovel to determine which one. A plow shovel shoves the snow out of the way. There is the traditional square shovel with a sharp edge. Some of these shovels come with a bent handle.  This bent handle intended to help minimize the weight, but some find it difficult to stabilize. There are others with various handle sizes and shapes of scoop. You might need more than one shovel depending on who is shoveling the driveway. If the driveway is too large, a shovel might be too small a tool.

There are many electrical and gas tools on the market. A simple electric or gas motor appears on a snow blower, called a snow broom, which you can carry.  It is about the weight of a grass trimmer. You walk through the driveway blowing the snow off the driveway. Even this walk with assistance tool might be too small. Many available snow blowers roll and shovel the snow as they blow it off to the side. Some people have placed a blade on an old lawnmower to build a small snowplow.

Keep up

No matter what system you choose, you must keep up the work or it becomes too big. Getting out early and often keeps the job small.

Winter weather comes, but it does not need to trap us in the house. With the proper tools, we tame Father Winter.
