Cold recycling is the name used for a technique whereby the carriageway pavement is milled up. The addition of binders produces a new mixture of materials which is placed directly by the recycling machine and serves as a base course. Both the unbound and the bound courses are reused completely, i.e. 100 percent. The slurry mixer ensures the water-cement slurry is added in precisely metered quantities to the cold recycling process. Various materials can be used as binder. Cement, bituminous emulsion and foamed bitumen are used most commonly.

Surface dressing is applied to seal the surface of minor roads. One or more bituminous courses are overlaid on roads for higher traffic volume.
