CATERPILLAR says medium wheel loaders have been the Foundation of its wheel loader range for 50 Years, with the first unit driven off the assembly line in 1959.

According to CATERPILLAR, its first production wheel loader was the 944 Wheel Traxcavator, which features a 1.5 cubic meter bucket and was available with either a 105hp gas or diesel engine.

Cat says its wheel loaders have been refined over the past five decades, with the current eight-model lineup of medium machines remaining as the foundation of the line and serves the largest market segment. The models range from 938H, IT38H, 950H, 962H, IT62H, 966H, and 972H to the 980H.
