Global materials handling equipment market is projected to exceed $163b in sales by 2010.

Epoc Messe Frankfurt is organising the Materials Handling Middle East convention in Dubai from 31 May to 2 June 2009. It announced the projections as part of a comment on the growth opportunities of the materials handling sector.

According to Epoc Messe Frankfurt, there is a growing trend towards complete integration of materials handling systems with procurement systems, manufacturing management systems and shipping operations. This is expected to bolster demand for automation equipment and software.

Developing nations, with rising per capita incomes, expanding manufacturing output, and increasing infrastructure investments, are also driving the demand for materials handling equipment.

There is also increasing demand for equipment to handle smaller packages, especially from the E-retailing sector, with growth driven by demands for innovation, ergonomics, safety and environmental friendliness.
