JLG to discontinue rear-pivot steer telehandler line

JLG Industries will cease manufacturing its rear-pivot steer telehandler models in 2010. The handlers, previously sold under the Gradall brand, were added to JLG's range in 1999 when it acquired the Gradall business.

The four models that will no longer be produced are the G6-42P, 534D9-45, 534D10-45 and 544D10-55. These were mainly sold in North America and in some developing markets.

"The market for rear-pivot steer telehandler models has been in decline for the last several years," said Brian Boeckman, JLG industries product parent for telehandlers. "The decreased demand for these units, combined with the continuing burden placed on manufacturers to comply with increasingly stringent EPA engine standards, lead us to the decision to discontinue these four niche models."

JLG will continue to support machines working in the field with available parts and services for "many years to come," Boeckman said. As a part of the JLG Ground Support program, customers will have access to rebuild and recondition rear-pivot steer units "long after the last new units are manufacture red," the company said.

The company will continue to manufacture the JLG-branded G5-18A, 619A, 723A, G6-42A, G9-43A, G10-43A, G10-55A and G12-55A.

Rear-pivot telehandlers provided 90-degree rear-pivot steering with two rear wheels, whereas other JLG telehandlers utilize four-wheel steering.
