UK's largest tool and equipment hire company Speedy Hire has recently invested £3m (A$5.411m) in a fleet of nitrogen membrane generators.

According to the Speedy, the investment makes it one of the first UK hire firms to offer high pressure Nitrogen Membrane units for hire.

The hire company says the advanced generators extract all other gases from the air to deliver a mixture of 95 to 99% nitrogen, which is needed in a wide range of applications such as drilling, mining and power generation.

By extracting nitrogen from the air on site, the units are said to remove the need for nitrogen to be supplied in very low temperature liquid form, potentially saving thousands of pounds per week.

Speedy Hire says several of the largest oilfield service companies in the world are now using the nitrogen generators it supplies, with units currently operating in Asia, Africa and Europe.
