Compact Backhoe Loaders and Compact Tractor Backhoes

Front end loaders are primarily designed to lift and move materials. Its counterpart, the compact backhoe loader is designed to dig below ground level. This equipment is best for trench-digging, removal of stumps, and tree-planting.

Compact backhoe loaders can also be called loader backhoes. These are mainly vehicles that come with a tractor, a shovel or bucket that is custom-fitted and a backhoe. Because of their relatively small size, compact backhoe loaders are commonly used in engineering and also some small construction jobs like fixing roads and building small houses.

Tractors, or tractor units as they are more popularly called in the UK, are mainly used for farming activities (such as plowing, digging, tilling, planting, harrowing, and disking) and with the birth of compact backhoe loaders; many other uses for this great vehicle have also been conceptualized.
The Many Uses of Backhoes

The compact backhoe loader was invented in the United Kingdom way back in 1953 by Joseph Cyril (who is incidentally the founder of JC Bamford (or JCB). Compact backhoe loaders are quite common now and they various uses (aside from digging trenches or tree-planting) such as small demolition jobs, light transportation of some building materials, excavating, digging holes, breaking asphalt, landscaping, and paving roads.

A compact backhoe loader bucket can be replaced with powered attachments such as grapples, breakers, augers or stump grinders. A tilt-rotator enhances the articulation of these attachments. Many compact tractor backhoes have mounting systems that are quite easy to attach and they also have auxiliary hydraulic circuits which simplify attachment mounts.

Compact tractor backhoe loaders sometimes have retractable-bottom buckets which are being used for scraping and grading. Oftentimes, these buckets can be replaced with any other tools or devices. A compact backhoe loader also has two hydraulic cylinders at the end of each of its arms. These two cylinders can retract which makes installation of other attachments possible.

Since compact tractor backhoes were designed with a heavy top, it has the tendency to tip, therefore, most of these vehicles have hydraulic outriggers when they dig and lower the bucket attachment for added stability.
