Liebherr at S E D 2008

Liebherr's attendance at SED 2008 sees the company displaying plant and equipment from its Earthmoving, Cranes and Concrete Equipment Divisions and, following its successful launch at the beginning of the year, Liebherr-Rental Limited will also be present on the group stand - Number 313 on Avenue R. A brand new crawler excavator will make its UK debut - an R 906 Classic - and, sure to create considerable interest, Liebherr will also be displaying one of the new range of telehandlers.

Excavator - UK Debut for R 906 Classic
The R 906 Classic is a new generation hydraulic excavator and is being seen for the very first time in the UK at SED. A 22 tonnes class machine, the R 906 Classic features low noise and exhaust emissions with the latest Liebherr engine technology, a superlative operator's cab, four operating modes from hard dig to precision lifting or grab work and is resplendent in the new livery being introduced throughout the Liebherr excavator range.

Powered by a Liebherr made D 934 S, four cylinder diesel engine, output is 105kW at 1800RPM. Bucket capacities are from 0.60m³ to 1.20m³. Monobloc or two-piece booms are available, as are various stick lengths up to 2.70 metres. Optimum digging depth is 6.50 metres and maximum reach at ground level is 9.75 metres. For lifting applications, the new R 906 Classic produces excellent duties up to 4.20 tonnes at 9 metres working radius. Breakout force is 150kN and digging force is 124kN.

Telehandler
On display is one of Liebherr's new telehandlers, a model TL 435-13. This is one of a range of four models and has a maximum lift capacity of 3.50 tonnes and 13 metres reach.

Stable and powerful, especially in the upper ranges of their reach, Liebherr telehandlers are powered by the same turbocharged, four-cylinder diesel engine developing 80kW. The distinctive oviform boom is borrowed from Liebherr's world-class telescopic crane technology, giving strength and performance right through the duties. Hydrostatic drive gives smooth and stepless movement, with precise, rapid and even control. A tight turning circle of only 3.8 metres combines with the hydrostatics to produce an agile and extremely manoeuverable machine; three electronically pre-set steering modes - front wheel drive, four wheel drive and crab steering - make these machines ideal on tight sites. Front outriggers are an added benefit on the model being displayed, for extreme stability when stationary.

The cab is comfortable and functional and the large windows and low boom coupling point provide excellent all-round visibility. The joystick control is easy to operate and extremely precise, with finger-tip control for altering the speed of both the working and travel hydraulics for optimum accuracy. Boom side shift is an optional extra on all models with 13 metres lifting heights.

32 TTR Fast Erecting Tower Crane
Liebherr's continuing success with tower and mobile cranes in the UK is well documented. On the stand at SED, the company is displaying a 32 TTR crawler-mounted fast-erecting tower crane.

From Liebherr's latest generation of high performance, advanced technology, fast-erecting tower cranes range, the 32 TTR is a very economical, multitalented machine mounted on a crawler undercarriage for extreme site mobility. Offering seven different jib lengths, load moments to suit the task in hand and three different under-hook heights, the 32 TTR has a double telescopic action for both mast and jib. It can be moved into working position in a matter of minutes and ballasted by a single operator using the new ballasting equipment. This crane has a simple wind-release system and can be manoeuvred upright into very narrow gaps on site. The erection process is swift and simple, unfolding automatically from the transport position controlled from a single panel and, following training, the operator should be able to have the crane ready for work within 30 minutes from arrival at the site location.

Performance is impressive with 7 telescopic jib lengths from 18-30 metres and under-hook heights of 14m, 19m and 24m. Maximum lifting capacity is 4,000kg and the maximum lift at 30 metres working radius is 1,100kg.

Concrete Truckmixer
The Liebherr HTM 804 truckmixer on show features a drum constructed from special steel, designated LH 37, which provides even greater wear resistance and is produced exclusively for Liebherr. The geometric drum volume is 14.29m³ and the capacity in set concrete is 8m³. Water volume is 9.10m³. Drive is via PTO from the carrier vehicle and the mixer drum is equipped with Sauer hydraulics and gearbox with TME controls.

An important factor in extending the working life of the mixer drum and the chassiscab is the Liebherr developed high-quality steel frame and U-clamp fixing method. Drum support pedestals are secured to the chassis frame with cross beams by stirrup bolts that accommodate flexing. These are fitted close to the frame to avoid stress transference and to distribute loads uniformly. The design, coupled with the fixing arrangement, enables the mixer sub-frame to be rigidly attached at regular intervals over the entire length of the frame. This forms a composite strength while still allowing the body to flex as necessary to avoid stress damage and/or misalignment occurring within the mixer superstructure. This, in effect, produces such a rigid and stress-free fit that problems of cracking or distortion on either the mixer frame or truck chassis are avoided. The result is a considerably extended operating life for both the superstructure installation and the host vehicle.

Liebherr-Rental Limited
Liebherr-Rental Limited is now getting well under way, offering a range of earthmoving and materials handling equipment throughout the national depot network. The hire fleet is in the process of establishment, with machines arriving in the UK in a continuous stream. General Manager Paul Clark and his team will be on the Liebherr stand to provide show visitors with the latest information, fleet list and rental rates.
