Honda joins Toyota, Nissan in scaling back production schedules

Too many vehicles and not enough buyers has been a recent refrain of domestic auto manufacturers, but now foreign carmakers are finding themselves with supply piling up behind slowing demand in the slumping economy.

And like their U.S.-based counterparts, they're responding with production cuts.

American Honda Motor Company Inc. will reduce production of its flagship Accord by giving workers at the Marysville assembly plant three extra days off in the first part of the year - the first such production step affecting the work week since 1993.

"It's indicative of the market," said Honda spokesman Ed Miller. "Our inventory is at 80 days. We want it closer to 60 for the four-door Accord."
