Standard Trailer Sway Control for 2009 Explorer

Ford's Explorer will add another confidence-enhancing safety feature list to its roster for the 2009 model year. Designed to enhance confidence and safety while towing, Trailer Sway Control (TSC) will be fitted as standard equipment. TSC employs sensors to monitor the action of a swaying trailer being pulled behind a truck or SUV, and uses the Electronic Stability Control system to help correct the unwanted movements. It's built into the Explorers AdvanceTrac stability system with Roll Stability Control (RSC) to cater specifically to those customers who use their Explorers to tow.

RSC is another enhanced function built into the AdvanceTrac system which takes the angle of the vehicle's body into consideration when issuing electronic corrections in the event of a skid. It has the ability to help prevent a rollover accident from occurring if the driver loses control.

"When we first introduced AdvanceTrac with RSC on the Explorer in 2004, we offered customers enhanced safety by including roll sensing," said Steve Kozak, Ford's chief safety engineer. "Now with Trailer Sway Control, we are helping our customers who tow trailers achieve an enhanced level of control of their load. Ford is committed to continuing to develop features and technologies that help make the driving experience easier and safer."

Industry authorities say that electronic stability systems like AdvanceTrac, RSC and Trailer Sway Control have the potential to prevent accidents and save lives.
