The construction spec JCB Loadall 12.5m and 14m machines have received a new cab with improved visibility.

Badged the HiViz models, the 535-125 and 535-140 claim to offer 10 per cent more visibility than the models they replace. There’s also tighter manoeuvrability on offer and a thoroughly revised cab interior that sports an all-new instrument binnacle with easy-to-read gauges.

While the biggest improvement to vision comes from lowering the boom pivot height by 235mm, the rear overhang has been reduced by shortening the chassis by 90mm on these 12.5m and 14m lift machines, helping the operator to see more easily over the off-side rear.

Further improvements include new axles featuring tighter steering angles that reduce the machine’s turning radius by around 250mm, while maintaining the same 2,750mm wheelbase.

Staying with its own axle design, the ability to turn tighter sees the steering angle improve from 33 to 38 degrees and the firm says that, where it can make gains from increasing the lock angle on other Loadall models, it will.

The 535-125 HiViz and 535-140 HiViz are also among the first models to incorporate a new dashboard and control layout that features an easy-to-read instrument panel that now groups all the analogue dials into a single display.

JCB has overhauled its compact loader line-up with the 407, 408 and 409 being streamlined into the new 409 model.

This console also includes an LCD panel which, at the touch of a button, allows the operator to see the time to the next service and the machine’s trip distance.

In the compact sector, the firm has overhauled its small-wheeled loader range with a new flagship 409 model that replaces the 407, 408 and previous 409 models.

The new version offers improved performance, greater comfort, easier maintenance and better visibility. With a quick-fit carriage and the ability to switch between attachments, the 409 can handle a 2.5 tonne load on pallet forks.

Power comes from a 75hp non-turbocharged air-cooled Deutz four-cylinder engine driving through a hydrostatic transmission, that gives infinite speed adjustment from 0-20kph.

Instrument and control layout

The HiViz models get a new instrument and control layout.

It’s possible the revised design of the 409 could soon put JCB back into the compact pivot steer telehandler sector – replacing the front half of the chassis and its twin-arm loader design with a centrally-mounted telescopic boom could create a compact TM model to sit below the TM310 and TM310S models.
